Europe’s “Brussels-based leadership” continues to push the continent toward war with Russia, and pro-war forces will try to advance this agenda at the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Wednesday in Budapest, according to a statement from the ministry.
We trust that similarly to the Middle East, President Trump’s peace efforts will succeed in Ukraine, too. Creating peace is in Hungary’s fundamental national interest. NATO is a defence alliance aimed at maintaining peace, one of the main pillars of which is NATO’s credible deterrence posture. And the real basis of this deterrence posture is provided by committed and reliable allies such as Hungary – stated Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky following the Meetings of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels on 15 October.
The prime minister said NATO "went down the wrong path" at last year’s summit in Washington, DC, because that meeting had been about Ukraine and not about making NATO stronger.
Hungary is significantly contributing to the collective defence of the Alliance, highlighted the defence minister in Brussels following the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky told us that in the international defence alliance, they had the opportunity to meet the new US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in person for the first time. We strongly support the position of the US Government regarding the conflict in Ukraine: the bloodshed must end, and efforts should focus on achieving peace as soon as possible, instead of prolonging the war, emphasized the defence minister.
Minister Szijjártó called the argument that Ukraine was fighting for European freedom and democracy “unbelievably blind”.
The Permanent Delegation of Hungary to NATO organized the “Hungarian Defence Industry Day at NATO” with the intention of providing an opportunity for some of the most prominent national companies in the field of defence, space and IT to present their capabilities and vision. Participants gained insights into the latest developments by Hungarian companies with a particular focus on innovative solutions.
It is not the war that Hungary supports but peace; and as a committed NATO ally, we are doing everything to strengthen our country and through that, the Alliance, emphasized the defence minister of Hungary at the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels.
The prime minister reminded that NATO was established with the aim of protecting the security of its members.
At the Meetings of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels, it was reasserted that Hungary will be left out of the role undertaken by the organization in Ukraine – announced Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky in a video uploaded to his Facebook page. He emphasized that “Hungary continues to be a committed, loyal and esteemed ally of NATO”.
